Toyota Named Top Automotive Innovator for 2016 by IPO

Toyota recently earned the IPO award for the third year in a row. IPO stands for the Intellectual Property Owners Association, an independent research association that publishes a yearly “Top 300 Organizations Granted US Patents.” Toyota has more patents—totaling 1,540 for 2016—than any other automaker, making it a leader in its industry.Top Automotive Innovator - Bill Walsh Toyota - Ottawa, IL

According to Toyota, several of these patents were filed with the creation of innovations like Toyota Safety Sense™, a suite of driver assist technologies that alerts you to dangers on the road. Entune 3.0 also utilized several new technologies, while Toyota also optimized hybrid and alternative-fuel options for several vehicles.

“As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota,” said Jeff Makarewicz, group vice president, Toyota Motor North America Research & Development.  “Toyota’s industry-leading patent numbers illustrate the company’s continuous success as global mobility and innovation front runner.”

Toyota Earns Keystone Leadership in Environment Award

Ever since Toyota took strides in environmentally-friendly innovation by revealing the Prius to the world and popularizing the hybrid class, the brand has been making efforts to be more eco-conscious in every way, from employing “greener” production processes to making their vehicles more efficient. The company’s efforts have been officially recognized by Keystone Policy Center, who recently handed Toyota the Leadership in Environment Award.

Toyota Motor North America and General Motors both recently partnered with the Wildlife Habitat Council in order to expand habitats for North American wildlife, improve biodiversity near manufacturing locations, and support the health of bees and other important pollinators. The 23rd annual Keystone Policy Center awards dinner recognized their efforts with the title, though Toyota’s collaboration with GM and the Wildlife Habitat Council is only the latest in a long line of eco-friendly advances from the company.

Today, the WHC has recognized 1,000 acres of land across nine Toyota manufacturing sites as certified “Wildlife at Work” locations. The first was Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Kentucky in 2008 when the partnership first began, but soon, many other Toyota plants across the nation followed. The Wildlife at Work locations, as well as the Keystone Leadership in Environment Award, attest to Toyota’s tradition of caring for the world around us.
